Outdoor wood-fired sauna

Wonderful enjoyment and total relaxation in the sauna is of course done when it is nice and warm. How warm? That is your own personal preference as is the method of heating. At Welvaere you choose either a wood-fired or an electric sauna. In our opinion, heating with a wood-fired fire gives an extra experience to enjoying the sauna, but electric heating is of course also a good option.

Viewing saunas

What is a wood-fired outdoor sauna?

A wood-fired outdoor sauna is a traditional outdoor sauna heated by a wood stove. Instead of electricity, wood is used to fire up the sauna, providing an authentic and natural sauna experience. The heat generated by burning wood spreads evenly throughout the sauna, providing a pleasant, dry heat.

Enjoying the wood-fired barrel sauna

The barrel sauna is a large barrel converted into a sauna. Due to the round shapes of the traditional barrel sauna, the heat is well circulated. Unlike an angular sauna, where the heat often lingers in certain corners, this circulation ensures that the temperature in the sauna is the same everywhere. This feels more pleasant and costs less energy.

Getting everything out of your sauna is of course done with a good and beautiful sauna heater. With a wood-fired sauna you do this, of course, with a wood-fired heater. With us you have the possibility to heat the room with stoves of the brand HUUM or Harvia. Both an excellent choice for your sauna.

Advantages of the outdoor wood-fired sauna

  • Additional atmosphere and character in the sauna
  • Enjoy the ultimate traditional sauna feeling
  • Upscaling is also possible with a wood-fired sauna

Our barrel sauna: The Tønsauna

Barrel saunas provide optimal relaxation and freedom. With a barrel sauna you never have to visit a wellness resort again, you just have this in your own backyard. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life was rarely so accessible and close at hand. Carefree relaxation and letting time slip by is then not difficult at all, in a barrel sauna it happens all by itself.

Types of wood-fired outdoor saunas

There are different types of wood-fired outdoor saunas available. Each sauna has its own characteristics. We briefly list the features for you:

  • Barrel sauna: This sauna has a round shape, which ensures efficient air circulation and rapid heating. Its compact shape also makes it space-saving. Take a look at the range for the Tønsauna to see what it looks like.
  • Log cabin sauna: A log cabin sauna has a traditional look and often offers more space. These saunas are made of solid wood, which makes for a sturdy and durable construction.
  • Hot tub & sauna combination: Some wood-fired saunas are combined with a hot tub. This gives the opportunity to cool off immediately in the water after a hot sauna session, offering an extra luxurious experience.

These different types of wood-fired saunas offer flexibility in style and functionality, so there is a suitable option for every garden and preference.

Wood-fired sauna heaters

It doesn't get any closer to the traditional sauna. By heating the sauna with a fire you create a unique atmosphere inside the sauna. The smell of the burning wood and the atmosphere of the dancing fire give the sauna a completely different experience than an electrically heated sauna.

And also on these sauna heaters you have the option of pouring on. With the raw stones from Harvia and the rolled stones from HUUM you can create a wonderful steaming heat in no time.

These are our wood-fired sauna heaters:

  • HUUM Hive Wood
  • Harvia M3

Perfect for all days of the year

Many people crawl into the sauna in winter to warm up. That's also where the idea of the sauna comes from, in Finland. How nice is it when you can walk down a white path to your outdoor sauna and crawl into bed completely warmed up and rosy? We know that all too well.

Did you know that using the sauna in the summer is also perfect? You can handle the heat better because your body gets used to it. It is a boost to your health and you also get a more beautiful tan. So no more reason to skip the sauna in summer.

Cost of a wood-fired outdoor sauna

The cost of a wood-fired outdoor sauna varies depending on the options you choose. With each sauna, you have the option of using the configurator. Here you choose all the options you want and a price quote comes out. At Welvaere you can start as low as about €4,500. It is also good to take into account the cost of energy consumption and maintenance of the outdoor sauna.

Does a wood-fired sauna also consume additional electricity?

A wood-fired sauna generally does not consume any additional electricity. This is because the sauna is heated entirely by burning wood in a wood-burning stove. Thus, no electricity is needed for the heating itself, which makes this form of sauna particularly sustainable. In some cases, small amounts of electricity may be required, such as for lighting in the sauna or a ventilation system. These power consumers are optional and often consume little energy.
