The perfect surface for your hot tub

A Ducktub hot tub can stand on a variety of surfaces. However, you need to take a few things into account. In this blog you can read all about the perfect surface for your hot tub.

You've been dreaming of it for years; a hot tub in the garden. Now you have decided to go for it. You look around the garden and consider where you think your future hot tub will fit best. Will you go for that little terrace at the back of the garden, will you have a wooden deck laid or will you put it on the gravel?

Enough space for the Ducktub you chose?

First, of course, it is important that there is enough room in the spot you have in your mind for the model of hot tub you have chosen. Do you have a wood-burning stove and a filter system? If so, you will need just a little more space. Look carefully in advance at the dimensions of the model of hot tub you want or have chosen. Of course, it's a shame if you've prepared the ground and the hot tub doesn't fit. Can you tick this off? Then it's time to look at the foundation.

The main substrate conditions

We always recommend placing the hot tub on a solid surface. After all, a filled hot tub weighs quite a bit and you don't want it to sink. The weight depends on the model you chose. For example, our lightest model filled with water weighs 940 kg and the heaviest model 2328 kg.

It is also important to choose a surface that stays as dry as possible. You don't want your hot tub to be on a surface where water easily accumulates under the tub and has difficulty draining away. This is not good for the wood underneath.

In addition, make sure that the ground is level. It is less comfortable if the hot tub is at an angle, but it is also important that the hot tub and wood stove are at the same height. If they are not, the natural circulation of the water in the heater will no longer work properly. This can cause the stove to break down because it can no longer release its heat.

Tiles or stones as a substrate

This is the option most people go for. This way you can be sure that the ground is solid (provided, of course, that the soil under the stones is not sinking) and you can also get this level fairly easily. You can build a piece of street at the same height as the rest of the garden or go for a raised terrace. Which stones or tiles you go for depends entirely on your taste and garden style, of course.

Grass as a surface for your hot tub

A hot tub on a nice piece of green grass looks beautiful, but to put it directly on the grass we do not recommend. Once the hot tub fills with water, it will sink into the grass. Especially if the grass gets damp. Also, you don't want the ground directly under the hot tub to stay very wet and damp for a long time. That way mold can easily develop and you have a chance that the wood won't last as long. What you can do is, right under the beam construction that the hot tub is standing on, place a stone foundation. That way, the hot tub stands on a hard surface, but looks like it's just standing on grass. This provides just a little more strength and assurance that the hot tub will stay nicely in place. It also allows the water under the hot tub to drain more easily.

A wooden decking under your hot tub

A hot tub on a wooden decking gives it a beautiful, stylish look. It really creates a separate wellness spot for the Ducktub. It also has the advantage that the hot tub stays dry at the bottom because it is slightly off the ground. However, the wood can become slippery because of the water. You have to be careful when getting in and out of the tub.

Gravel as a substrate

You can also choose to put the Ducktub on gravel. Again, this comes in endless varieties and colors. The advantage of gravel is that the water that splashes over the hot tub when you sit in it or when you empty the tub, can easily run off between the gravel. Again, it is advisable to provide a solid surface under the beam construction. Here you can think of honeycomb mats or tiles so the hot tub will always stand firm.

Plenty of time for preparation

The moment you purchase a Ducktub hot tub, our dream builders in Nijkerk will get to work for you. Production time is a few weeks, which gives you some time to prepare. Besides a good foundation, depending on the options you've chosen, you'll also need to take care of power before the hot tub is delivered. After that, it's time to enjoy the anticipation. Before you know it, it will be impossible to imagine your backyard without the hot tub!
