But, winter, freezing and cold also bring questions. Because, how do you make sure you can enjoy the hot tub in the winter and continue to do so in the period after? Therefore, here are our 4 tips to protect your hot tub from winter.

Prepare

When it starts freezing, it's almost impossible that you don't get this. The news, on the streets and on social media the first reports about a possible ice skating trip and lots of snow will start to appear. So the moment you know it's going to freeze, decide how you are going to make sure your hot tub is protected from winter.

Keep an eye on the temperature

This may sound logical, but it is not for everyone. It is important to keep an eye on the temperature. Not only the outside temperature, but also the temperature of the water. If the temperature of the water drops below 0, it can naturally freeze. That's something you want to prevent. There are several things you can do to keep the water from freezing:

  • Drain the hot tub completely
  • Fire up the hot tub regularly so the water is warm and stays warm
  • Turning Balboa's electric heater on or up
  • Circulating water through the filter pump 24/7

Protecting the hot tub

Naturally, you want to protect your hot tub properly. After all, you want to enjoy it for a long time, even in the winter. And we completely understand that. That's why it's good to protect the hot tub properly. Where you can use an extra thick coat in winter, so can the hot tub. Make sure the hot tub has a good cover, this keeps the water warmer and makes it harder for it to freeze.

Also, when you purchase a hot tub from us, you can choose to add an extra layer of insulation. This layer you really need if you choose electric heating with the Balboa system but can also serve as extra protection during the winter.

Speaking of that Balboa system. If you choose to heat your hot tub all electric, you'll probably always have the temperature around 37/38 degrees. So no worries for you during the winter months. If you've chosen the hybrid system, you can choose to use it now and set the hot tub to around 20/25 degrees by default. So it is also very easy for you in the winter.

Enjoy

The last and fourth step is the most important as far as we are concerned. Enjoy! The hot tub should not be a worry, but really something to enjoy and be in. We understand that it may all be a bit more exciting and a common question with us in the Experience Center and on the phone as winter approaches is "what should I do to protect my hot tub?

As you can read on our knowledge base, the tub can withstand slight freezing. It is so strong that it will not expand or shrink with high temperature changes. The thing that can break down is the heater, but also what you can do about that you can read above or on the knowledge base.
