A place to eat and a place to lounge
Actually, every garden should have a place to relax and lounge. Preferably, this should be a place other than the dining area. Jan: "I always recommend placing the dining area close to the house. That way you don't have to go through the whole garden with your pots and pans, but put it on the table in no time."
For the lounge area, it is important to look at a spot in the garden that you like best. The place where you prefer to sit, for example. In addition, the position of the sun is always good to take into account. Do you prefer to sit in the morning sun, in the evening sun or in the shade?
Sun worshipper or a shade seeker?
If you want to catch every ray of sunshine in your garden, it's a good idea to consider where you place your patio. If you are a sun worshipper, then of course you want to enjoy this on your patio for as long as possible.
Jan: "You can easily determine where your terrace should be by first looking in which direction your garden faces. If your garden faces south, you're in luck. Then you will enjoy sunshine in your garden almost all day. On North and East you have partly morning sun and maybe evening sun, and if you have your garden on West then you enjoy the sun in the afternoon and evening."
"It also depends on how high your house is and how deep your garden is. The best thing to do is just to go into your garden on a sunny day and see how the sun passes over it and at what time and place you are most comfortable. If you're a shade seeker, of course, you do the same thing, but the other way around." 🔁
Creating a cozy garden is how you do it
Just how to make a garden cozy is a question often asked at Temm & Garden. For that, Jan has some handy tips. "Use large objects instead of all small ones. For example when it comes to trees, don't put 5 small trees in your garden, but choose 2 large trees. In addition, mood lighting is important. This is really unthinkable in this day and age. For example, you can place spotlights under the trees that beautifully illuminate the trees. That gives a very nice atmosphere."
